Lou Cushman is a member of the Advisory Board of Directors of Cushman &
Wakefield, Inc. The largest privately owned commercial real estate services
firm in the world, Cushman & Wakefield has over 12,500 employees
(approximately 2,500 of them brokerage professionals) in 201 offices (86 in the
U.S.) in 56 countries on six continents.
Having begun his real estate career in New York City in 1965, Lou joined
Cushman & Wakefield in 1967, and relocated from New York in 1971 to open and
head up its office in Houston, Texas. During his 42-year career in commercial
real estate, he has been involved in major office leasing, land
assemblage/purchase, build-to-suit, building purchase and sale, and consulting
assignments throughout the United States and internationally. Lou is one of
only 66 office leasing brokers nationwide installed in 1986 as a charter member
(Active Office) of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR).
Along with his twin brother John Cushman, Chairman of Cushman &
Wakefield, Lou owns a 2,000-acre ranch in Driggs, Idaho overlooking the Tetons,
where he indulges his interests in skiing, hiking, horseback riding, golf, fly
fishing and wingshooting. They also own Zaca Mesa Winery in Santa Barbara
County, California.
Following graduation from Amherst College with a BA degree with honors in
Economics, Lou received an MBA degree from The University of Michigan.
Lou lives in Houston, Texas with his wife. Their son lives in Manhattan
Beach, California, and their daughter lives in New York City.
